      <title>Desperate for Drivers!</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Time's short and I seem to have run out of drivers that can run 50ft of EL. I've got a few extra little ones, good for 20ft or so but I need at least one more of those little Cool Neon black cubes or the grey ones with the rounded edges. Can anyone bring spares to the Playa? I'll gladly barter or whatever for 'em. I'll be bringing my full soldering setup if anyone has need of same. Come find me at the Rue Morgue in the 9:00 mini esplanade.

      <title>Cat-O-Nine tip</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;  Got one of the Cat O Nine drivers but didn't manage to get a jack to match that tiny little external socket on the side. Decided to toss the socket and solder on a couple of leads that could connect with my control panel. Now here's the trick: the socket has three connections and it's set up so that inserting a jack in the socket connects two of these. After you solder on plus and minus leads for whatever external power supply you're using, solder a jumper between the outermost two pins or the damned thing won't work.&lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;  Basically a device to allow EL to make a fairly sharp turn while under tension. It's a plastic pulley, nothing more. Scroll past the text to first two photos to see them in use: http://www.nmpproducts.com/blog/
&lt;br/&gt;  Easy to make your own: I used 1" Delrin rod and turned a notch with a radius tool. Notch is .130" wide and .050" deep. I drilled it 11/64" thru the middle and mounted it with a #8 hex head sheetmetal screw (these work really well in many materials).&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Trouble finding sequencers</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;  Have been googling with little success. I'm in need of a couple of robust 3-channel sequencers, but all the ones I've found so far use AAA cells and only run 5ft per channel! Can anyone point me to better ones that are still DC but capable of running something like 20 to 40ft per channel? Cool Neon used to sell these neat sequencers with speed controls and aluminum cases, but they didn't last very long and they don't carry 'em any more... &lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;On the evening of May 17th, 2008, the entire building that houses Climate Theater and Gallery NINE (formerly the Anon Gallery) will be taken over by a select group of artists who use light and electricity.  22 eclectic spaces including two theater spaces, multiple rooms as well as a rooftop garden will be filled with illuminated installations, projections, sculptures and performances.  The curation is by a group of local artists who are the visual arts and film curators for Climate Theater.

&lt;br/&gt;G. Cole Allee received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007. Her work has been exhibited in San Francisco, LA and Tokyo. She is a photo-based artist exploring landscape as cultural iconography, and sometimes, vice versa.  She has lived in San Francisco for a decade, teaching photography to youth at risk in Bayview Hunter's Point and recently with the Sixth Street Photography Workshop. While at SFAI she co-curated the Swell Gallery, the graduate venue. She is currently one of the Visual Arts curators for the Climate Theater
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Jen Cohen is a video, performance artist who attempts to break the narrative, cinematic genre through the creation of abstract video motifs projected onto non-traditional surfaces.  She has exhibited her work through out the Bay Area including venues such as the de Young Museum, Recombinant Media Lab, CNMAT, SomArts, 21 Grand, Roxie Cinema, The Lab, The Fine Arts Cinema and Artists Television Access (ATA).  She received a B.F.A in Media Arts from California College of the Arts.  Last October she started the 4d Dream-a-thon experimental film series at The Climate Theater and continues to co-curate the series

&lt;br/&gt;Kaliisa Conlon is a film and video artist based in San Francisco. After performing with her mystic rock band Pizza Party in the Pacific NW, she received her BFA in Film and Video at California College of the Arts in 2007. Kaliisa now co-curates the experimental film series at the Climate Theater in San Francisco and concocts her witchy art and psychic films from her bedroom in the Mission.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Victoria Mara Heilweil is a photographic artist, educator and curator.  She received her MFA in Photography from California College of the Arts in 1995.  Her work has been exhibited nationally in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Victoria was the curator and co-owner of a cooperative art gallery in the East Village in NYC.       <title>Need help making a sign</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hi,
&lt;br/&gt;I am new to this "stuff" and need some help. I am making a sign for a competition's opening ceremonies which are held in a football stadium at night. The sign will say: GO EAGLES! and it will have a square with a circle on one of its corners. My questions are: Do you guys think using a perforated board to "weave" the EL wire would work??? 2) Should I paint the board black or white? 3) Would it be better to: {a} cover the EL on the back of the board or {b} use speaker wire on the back? I'd like to use block letters about 6 inches tall.

&lt;br/&gt;For my short film...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I’m trying to duplicate the effects of "Lightning strikes units" in a budget. If you don't know what that is cool. But if you have watched any David lynch films and the actor is bathed in a flashing strobey light that is controlled this is them. A simple strobe light pulses to fast and is no good. The before mentioned LS units cost way too much to rent for an artist of my paltry means. It’s a little off topic but I have seen some wacky stuff for cars perhaps that’s a way to go? Any help thanks

      <title>Two questions and gratuitous plug</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;1) Anyone know a USA distributor for the multi-colored el-wire? I bought some 4-color off ebay last year (not bad, but not as bright as Lytec's).  Now I see the chinese are also making some dual color wire (http://www.elwire-elwire.com/english/products.php?laywer1=15690).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;2) Is anyone ever going to make a decent small sound reactive inverter?  The only one around is that crappy one channel 12v unit that either requires a huge battery back, or running dimmer off a 9v.  I've got a couple of those old 8-channel sequencers... but those aren't very portable either, and I'm too protective of them since they're now irreplaceable.

      <title>EL wire to wire attachment??</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I've been building some creatures from bendable wire and attaching EL wire by tieing it with fishing line.  The fishing line works great as it doesn't block any of the light.  However the tieing is very time consuming and sometimes the knots tend to losen up.  I have been commissioned to make several peices in this manner. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt; However, I'd like to find another method of attaching the EL wire to the wire frame that is much faster and more durable, since I won't have control of the comissioned peices.  Anyone found anything that works good and doesn't leave light gaps (something clear or opaic)?  Or just any ideas?&lt;/div&gt;

There isn't time for coolneon to ship me one before then so I wonder if this is the sort of thing I can find in a radio shack or other electronics store.  If so would they know it by the name "pigtail wire" or does it have another more common name?

      <title>Y-connector load balancing?</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;  --Not sure even if this will be a problem, but I want to use one of those big 12-v drivers, the kind that says it can run 200ft of EL to run 5 strands of wire. The driver has two outlet cords and I've got both set up with Y-connectors, yielding 4 outlets. This seems to work pretty good but I now find I need to run a fifth string of EL. So is a Y-connector connected to one of the 4 outlets from the two Y-connectors I'm already using going to cause an imbalance in brightness on the other two? Guess I'll go ahead and try it anyway. Yes, I oculd use a smaller seperate driver, but I want to avoid maxxing out a small control console that only has so many spots to hook up switches to turn the various displays on and off.&lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;(I've posted some of this on the "burning bikes" tribe, but I thought maybe some folks over here might have some thoughts as well, since it seems to fall under both jurisdictions, so to speak.)  
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I'm planning on running about 50' of EL wire off the deep cycle battery that is powering the speakers on my rickshaw, but I'm a little unsure as to how to wire the connections properly (and safely).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;-I was planning on simply cutting the little 9volt connector off the end of the driver, crimping an o-ring on the red positive wire, and screwing that into the positive battery terminal, in the same manner as if I were attaching a car amp to a car battery.  Would it be recommended or worth my time/effort to put a fuse or anything in line?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;-What should I do with the black ground/negative wire?  Would it be safe to attach it directly to the metal frame of the rickshaw?  Or should I attach it in the same way with an o-ring to the negative battery terminal?

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hi. My camp at Burning Man (NoseFish) has an FSM project. It is a coolneon (elecroluminescent wire) project on a rolling cart. The eyes have separate red, green and blue colored lights, which can be faded, to form any color.

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I'm looking for about 3 100' solid Red, Green, and Blue EL wire.  It's for an art project/installation @ Nocturnal Wonderland on September 2nd, so I need a good online supplier that can for sure get me the EL within 2 weeks.       <title>el wire help</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I sewed a bunch of el wire on a jacket, but had to wash it (dryel in the dryer) after last years burn.
&lt;br/&gt;I had 2 10' lengths on it with seperate drivers.  one wire works fine, the other isn't working at all.  I've tried different drivers for the non working wire.  they were both the quick connect kind.
&lt;br/&gt;any ideas on how I test the non working wire?  Do I need to take the connector off and resolder a new one on?
&lt;br/&gt;I've never soldered before, but I'm sure I could learn.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Driver question</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;We're pretty new to all this soldering stuff, so we ordered our wire pre-soldered.  (Thanks to the awesome COOL NEON guys!!)
&lt;br/&gt;My question, when we connected wire to the driver, the driver hummed.  Is this normal?  It could be heard from 10 ft away.
&lt;br/&gt;Now, if this is normal, can it be muffled safely? Will it heat up if it is covered/wrapped/enclosed?  We did place is behind a layer of fabric, but it won't have any air flow to cool it there.  
&lt;br/&gt;Any help or ideas are appreciated!

      <title>Ok, speaker wire</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Ok, I made my first ever solder and the wire actually worked! (can you tell I am pretty proud of myself for that :) But now I am getting more complex and trying to attach speaker wire to extend it. What I am confused on is how do I solder it to the cool neon to extend a black portion in my design? Do I take both ends of the speaker wire and put it on the cool neon wire or do I make it like the connectors with one long end of speaker wire and one short end and connect it like normal?

      <title>EL driver circuits</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Sorry if this has been brought up before, but didn't see it anywhere...I'm looking for simple el drivers circuits.  I've seen quite a few shown out there on the internet, but when it comes to the transfomer, the reference is just....make sure it matches.  Sorry, I'm not an electronics genius...matches what?  Wish they'd post what part they used for xformer...they listed all the other parts.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Ultimately, I'd like to be able to control the frequency of the driver.  Ok..I can build up stuff using a PIC but analog and I don't get along.  I've got all my PIC stuff working happily with the store bought driver, but would like to make  my own to both control frequency and run length.  
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Any help will be grealy appreciated.  Please don't say to just go search for it on the internet.  Been there and done that.  Almost crazy from it now because no one wants to list all parts values or they put in their disclaimer...oh, it should work, but I haven't tried it.

      <description>&lt;div&gt;i was wondering what's the best way to attach it to wood.  i'm making some wings for my playapig moble and wanted  to sequence some wire on them.  they are made from 3/8 plywood.  i'm plannnig to just paint them and i was thinking hot glue or clear tape.  i thought that clear tape would collect a lot of dust around the edges which would look bad.  i guess i'll go buy a glue gun; but i never really liked martha stewart ....&lt;/div&gt;
