1) Anyone know a USA distributor for the multi-colored el-wire? I bought some 4-color off ebay last year (not bad, but not as bright as Lytec's). Now I see the chinese are also making some dual color wire (www.elwire-elwire.com/english...ucts.php
2) Is anyone ever going to make a decent small sound reactive inverter? The only one around is that crappy one channel 12v unit that either requires a huge battery back, or running dimmer off a 9v. I've got a couple of those old 8-channel sequencers... but those aren't very portable either, and I'm too protective of them since they're now irreplaceable.
Gratuitous plug: I sell necklaces and other custom el-wire stuff at www.irritantgear.com.
If nothing else, check out the gallery for examples of some of my work.
I just found this tribe -- I'll try to pop in more often and offer up help/ideas.
Cheers,
Dustin

Does the multi core stuff require a separate solder joint for each color? Or have they come up with some more creative option? -

Re: Two questions and gratuitous plug
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 6:31 AMFlux,
All el-wire colors are determined by the color of the plastic sheath around the core -- except for the aqua-blue, which is El's natural color.
The multi-color stuff is just a multi-colored sheath -- and doesn't require any special connections. -

Re: Two questions and gratuitous plug
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 1:43 PMOk Mr. Smith, I know about the colors being determined by the sheath. You know I've worked with EL before, you've seen some of my projects. I've never seen the multi color, either in person or online so I guess what I pictured is not correct. What I pictured is multiple strands of various colors twisted around each other and all contained in a single outer sheath. Since that doesn't seem to be the case, what is it? One length of wire with different colors on different sections? Do you have a link to a pic so I can see for myself?

Sun, July 1, 2007 - 7:39 PMSorry flux - I cant see your face in your picture and didnt recognize your name right off.
Don't have any links besides what is above. But yeah, it's just one wire with a 4-color sheath.
To be honest, the wire is fairly disappointing -- just not very bright. I wish Elan would make a proper version.
Actually, here's an ebay auction with a picture of the stuff I bought:

Was bored last night and made a variation of Flux's question.
That is, I took 5 pieces of the real thin angel hair el-wire, twisted them together and made a necklace out of it with the bali beads -- turned out pretty cool. Though I had to use a AA inverter instead of the smaller rapidstrobe because of the amount of wire. -
